Omneruon, a life sciences company focusing on novel MRI technologies, is looking for healthy volunteers to participate in brain research focused on individuals capacity for cognitive control.

Currently we are recruiting healthy volunteers!

Omneuron is looking for healthy volunteers for a functional MRI research study. Participation would require multiple visits, 1-3 hours long at our office in Menlo Park where you would be trained with a mental task and then utilize the task in a MRI scan session. Compensation (must be a US citizen or legal resident w/green card) is $10h for travel and time outside the scanner, $20h for time spent in the scanner.

Eligibility includes:

          - No metal piercings or implants that can’t be removed (dental work is OK)

          - Good vision or correction with contact lenses

          - Weight under approximately 220 lbs., age 21-65

          - No history of chronic pain

          - No psychiatric illness: such as major depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar, PTSD, ocd, etc

          - No history of traumatic brain injury or stroke

          - No neurological conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, etc.

          - No facial tattoos

          - No claustrophobia

          - Able to attend multiple MRI scan sessions in Menlo Park, CA

Details About This Study:

Purpose of Study:

The goal of our neuroimaging study is to apply functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to study brain activation.  In this study, you will undergo an MRI and receive visual, tactile or stimuli.  You will be told which mental tasks you will receive and what, if any, stimulus you will be doing in the scanner before your scan session.

Time Commitment:

Each MRI session will take between 2-3 hours to complete, including about 1-2 hours inside a scanner.  This might seem rather long, but realize that we allow time to make sure you are comfortable in the MRI and answer any questions you have so that the entire time is more interesting for you.  Participants will be asked to come for one or more MRI sessions per week, and may be invited back for additional sessions. Session tasks may vary each visit.  Your participation in this study is wholly voluntary.  If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and to discontinue participation at any time.

Benefits:

We believe that the experience of undergoing an MRI and learning about these new techniques is interesting and enlightening.  You will be paid $10/hour for each hour or part thereof spent receiving instructions, filling out forms, or traveling to the center (if you live more than an hour away).  For time you spend in the scanner, you will receive $20/hour.

Risks:

We are very concerned about your safety and for this reason, we will ask you questions designed to assess whether you can safely and comfortably participate in this study.  For example, the MRI scanner uses a very powerful magnet that will forcefully attract certain metals.  We will ask you detailed questions about whether you have any non-removable metal in your body which might be attracted to the magnet and thus put you at risk.  If there is any uncertainty, we might ask you to obtain additional information from your physician as a precondition for participation in our study.  To protect your confidentiality, we cannot talk to your physician unless we have your permission.  If you have a fear of enclosed places or pain that would prevent you from laying flat for an hour, we may also ask you not to participate in this study.  We will only use the screening information obtained in this interview to determine whether you are able to participate in our study and will otherwise keep all records confidential.  Please realize that if you choose to participate, you may discontinue the scan at anytime.  If you pass our screening and choose to participate, there are no known significant risks with these procedures at this time.  The radiofrequency magnetic field do not cause any known harmful effects at the levels used in the MRI machine.

In addition to the safety screening, we interview people about their health and demographics.  There are several reasons for these questions.  In some cases, we need to select people according to age, handedness, or education.  In order to publish our studies, we need to screen people for medications and health problems that may affect our measure of brain functioning.  We also need to avoid including people with any problems that may involve brain dysfunction such as learning disabilities, stroke or related risk factors, or severe mental illness.  As with the safety questions, this information will be used only to decide whether you are appropriate for out studies and will be kept confidential.
